Sam was a loving soul who was lost too soon. Gone from this world but never from our

hearts. He was an exceptional father, husband, son, brother, and friend.

Sam was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He grew up in Queens, New York from 1985 and

moved to Peekskill in 2020. He was an active sports player, especially ice hockey, avid

dancer, and activist, volunteering with the Asian American Legal Defense and

Education Fund. He participated in youth enrichment programs for underserved

communities, like South Asian Youth Action. He developed curriculum for school

systems nationally through Global Kids and Development Without Limits. Most recently,

he was a respected, loved, and admired co-worker and colleague in the Center for

Education Research and Evaluation at Columbia University Medical Center. He had a

Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and was a Doctoral candidate at

Columbia Teacher’s college.

He is survived by his wife, Devjani, two sons, Saajan and Amar, parents Mabel and

Rowland, two sisters Florence and Angelina, nephew Aiden and niece Sophie. He is

deeply missed.

Sam was a wonderful, creative, loving and caring person with a deep compassion for

everyone, especially those facing challenges. He was honest and hard working and

never judged anyone. He was deeply spiritual and believed in the interconnectedness of

all sentient beings. He was respectful to all and loved by everyone who knew him.

During this holiday season, he is deeply missed by us all. We are heartbroken, but

blessed that he was a part of our lives here on earth, even though short. We hope his

memory will live on through the work of Mary Lou Kalla Foundation’s (MLKF) education

and health sector projects which he supported. His mother, Mabel Gomes is also a

Director of this foundation and supports its selfless dedication to help the underserved

which Sam was passionate about.

Please support by donating to MLKF which is a 501©3 non-profit organization. Please

go the website at www.maryloukallafoundation.org where you will find the link to donate.

The donation will go to Sam Quiah Memorial Fund. Thank you for your support.
